Signs on for Comedy Central Show
Mon Jun 20, 5:38 PM
NEW YORK - David Spade once did the "Hollywood Minute" on "Saturday
Night Live." Now he figures there's enough material for a half-hour of fun each week.
Show" aims to do for entertainment news shows what Jon Stewart does for the nightly news. Comedy Central said Monday the show
probably will debut in September.
Think about the past few weeks alone: Tom Cruise and his whirlwind
romance, Russell Crowe and the hotel phone. The joke possibilities are endless, Spade said.
seemed like Hollywood-insider information is now everywhere, he said.
"Even my mom is like, `Cinderella
Man' took a bit of a dip the second week,'" he said in an interview with The Associated Press. "Huh? How did you hear that?
`Does Angelina Jolie really drink blood? Call me back.'"
Spade's program will feature a mix similar
to "The Daily Show," with "correspondents," on-location pieces, parodies using film clips and celebrity guests. He created
the show with writing partner Hugh Fink.
"There's so much that's funny in all these magazines and shows
that there needs to be a different point of view," he said. "I'm not saying it has to be mean - mean jokes aren't always the
funniest. I think it's just making fun and taking a new angle, and kind of doing what people are thinking for real."
Spade, who's primarily worked in sitcoms ("Just Shoot Me!" and "8 Simple Rules ... ") for several years, said he was eager
for the opportunity to do more topical comedy.
After Crowe's arrest for throwing a fit - and a phone
- at a hotel concierge in New York, comedy show writers are certainly happy to know there are a few jerks out there, he said.
"The things I do in my trailer when I'm mad I don't want people to know about," he said.
And Cruise seems to be the gift that keeps on giving for the entertainment shows and people who make fun of them - from his
enthusiastic "Oprah" appearance to his engagement to Katie Holmes.
"I think people out here are saying `We're
OK with happiness. We're uncomfortable with possible fake happiness, like if we'd been punked,'" he said.
He did, however, feel sympathy for Cruise when a prankster, interviewing the "War of the Worlds" star in London, squirted
the actor with a water pistol disguised as a microphone.
"If I was Tom I would have cracked the kid across
the head," he said. "I wish he had a phone with him - not a cell phone but a Russell Crowe hotel phone."
John accepts a Prism Award for the Chris Farley Foundation! (Article from www.chrisfarleyfoundation.com)
"Foundation receives President's Award at Ninth Annual PRISM
The Entertainment Industries Council (EIC), producers of the annual PRISM awards, honored The Chris Farley
Foundation with their President's Award. The presentation was part of the Ninth Annual PRISM Awards held at the Beverly Hills
Hotel in Los Angeles on April 28, 2005. Actor Tom Arnold, a close friend who helped Chris Farley throughout his years of recovery,
presented the award to brothers Tom and John Farley.
The awards show will air on the FX Network on September 4, 2005.
PRISM awards are a nationally televised awards show that recognizes the accurate depiction of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use
in film, television, interactive, music, video, and comic book entertainment."
John is going to be in "Benchwarmers"!!!! John is going to be in the new
Adam Sandler/Rob Schneider/David Spade movie, "Benchwarmers". He's going to play a character called "Swimmer Boy"!!! John
in a Speedo??? This movie is going to be awesome!
Movie plot courtesy of imdb.com
"Plot Outline: A trio of guys try and make up for missed opportunities in
childhood by forming a three-player baseball team to compete against standard little league squads."
Look at the list
of all the people in it... starting with JOHN!!! (Again courtesy of imdb.com)
"Cast (in alphabetical order)

And yes, you read that correctly... Napoleon is in it!!! (Jon Heder from "Napoleon Dynamite")...
There's gossip galore on the imdb chat for the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437863/

John has been a busy boy! He's playing a newscaster in a "Coke with Lime" commercial, he's in a Mercury car commercial,
and he and Kevin are in a cell phone commercial that is only being aired in upstate Wisconsin. (If any of y'all SEE
the Mercury or cell phone commercials, PLEASE drop me a line, because I am a nerd and haven't seen them yet!)
John and Kevin are also in development with Norm MacDonald for a pilot for a show for Comedy Central. (That would
be the most awesome thing in the world, but I won't say anything more and jinx them) UPDATE!!! -
YUP, THE SHOW IS ON! It's called "Back to Norm" and it's on Comedy Central. So far, it's not a series, just a "Comedy Special".
John and Kevin were in it, as was Rob Schneider. John looks VERY fancy in his turban, and beard! And he does the funnest (is
that a word?) middle-eastern babble ever! Not a huge part for him, but we're always happy to see new John stuff!
John's new movie "Deuce Bigalow 2" is slated for an August 2005 release. (We all hope that he has a bigger part in
this than he did in the other Rob Schneider movie, The Animal. If you look at the picture, you see that cute guy all the way
in the back on the left, that's John... He also stands behind Rob Schneider in a scene... We want more screen time for John!)
UPDATE: Download a FREE trailer on mtv.com in the "trailer park" section! Yay!
